Akron Symphonic Winds

The Akron Symphonic Winds will be performing a series of outdoor concerts throughout Northeatern Ohio, from Akron to Bath, Parma Heights and Kent.  On Friday, August 13th, they'll perform at the City of Green's Central Park in Uniontown, and on Sunday August 15th, they'll be at Greenbrier Commons in Parma Heights

Beachwood Summer Music Series

The Beachood Summer Music Series features indoor performances at the Beachwood Community Cetner on Thursday evenings.  On July 8 Donna Lee and Irwin Shung will play piano music for one, two, three and four hands.  On July 15th, it's a Night Under the Stars with performers from the Cleveland International Piano Competetion (registration is required).  On July 22nd, pianist Marshall Griffith and flutist Virginia Crabtree will present a program called Mozart:  Man and Music.  And on July 29th, pianist Andrew Focks will perform.   

Church of the Covenant

At the Church of the Covenant in University Circle, there are two series of drive-in carillon concerts, on Fridays at lunchtime, 12:15, and on Sunday afternoons at 4:00.

 

Cleveland Cinematheque

Cleveland Cinematheque has resume in-person screenings at the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque.  A wide variety of films are being shown, and the Cinemateque will have a special series celebrating its own 35th anniversary in August. And the  Cleveland Cinematheque  will continue its Virtual Multiplex on line, with new films being added each week.  You can check out the current list at their website. 

Cleveland Museum of Art

The Cleveland Museum of Art is open for in-person visits.  The Museum is currently presenting two new shows:  Art of the Islamic World  and  Medieval Treasures from Muenster Cathedral . Reservations are required. 

 

Cleveland Orchestra

The Cleveland Orchestra's summer season at the Blossom Music Center continues on July 25th, Guest Conductor Rafael Payare will be joined by violinist Stefan Jackiw in Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 2.  The concert wil also include Dvorak's New World Symphony.  On Sunday evening, August 1st, Herbert Blomstedt will be the guest conductor in a program that includes Beethoven's Fourth Piano Concerto and Seventh Symphony.  Garrick Ohlsson will be the soloist in the concerto.  On August 8th, the Orchestra will perform a Tribute to the Beatles with a Classical Mystery Tour.  The concerts will be presented with limited seating both on the lawn and in the Pavillion.  You can check the Orchestra's website for information about ticket availability and necessary protocols.  And remember that the Adella app continues to present recent Orchestra Severance Hall concerts.  Check the Orchestra's website for more information.

Dance Cleveland

DanceCleveland's 65th Anniversary Season will include performances by the Alvin Ailey American Dance Ensemble, Paul Tanowitz Dance with pianist SImone Dinnerstein, Momix and other.  The season begins at Cain Park on Saturday, August 21st, with two performances by Raphael Xavier. 

 

Great Lakes Theater

Great Lakes Theater has announced its live season, to begin in October with Shakespeare's The Tempest, to be followed by  A Christmas Carol, Ain't Misbehavin' . Much Ado About Nothing and finally the Off-Broadway juke box musical The Marvelous Wonderettes.

Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage

At the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage, the special exhibition The Notorious RBG:  The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg continues through August 29th.  There are a number of events presented in conjunction with the exhibition,, including on-line tours. 

Mercury Theater

Mercury Theater Company's next production is the new musical Amelie, based on the Academy-Award nominated film of that title.  It's at Notre Dame College's Regina Auditorium in South Euclid from July 16th through August 8th.   

 

Morgan Conservatory of Papermaking

The Morgan Art of Papermaking Conservatory and Educational Foundation on East 47th Street in Cleveland has a gallery exhibition called Cross Generations:  Bridging the Gap of Artists, on view July 30th through September 30th.  Morgan will also present workshops on Natural Dyes on Paper on August 7th and 8th, and Pulp and Print:  Screen Printing on Handmade Paper on the 14th and 15th.   

 

 

 

Music Near the Market

The free Wednesday noontime organ recitals continue at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and its Beckerath organ at West 30th and Lorain.  On August 4th and 11th, Robert Myers will play Bach's Eight Little Preludes and Fugues.

Piano Cleveland

Piano Cleveland  presents the Cleveland International Piano Competition.  The virtual rounds continue to stream through Sunday, July 25th.  The live semi-final rounds run Thursday through Sunday, July 29th  through August 1st at the Cleveland Museum of Art.  The Chamber Rounds. also at the Art Museum,. are August 3rd and 4th.  The final rounds, with the Cleveland Orchestra at Severance Hall, are Friday and Saturday, August 6th and 7th.

Porthouse Theater

Kent State University's Porthouse Theater will present three live musicals this summer.  The Theater, adjacent to the Blossom Music Center, will operate at full capacity and also have a live streaming option available.  Quilters is the first show, running June 18th through July 3rd.  That will be followed by BKLYN July 9th through 24th, and Altar Boyz July 30th through August 15th.   

Verb Ballets

Verb Ballets will present a summer series of live performances around Northeast Ohio, beginning with two appearances at the Heinz Poll Summer Dance Festival at Akron's Goodyear Heights Metro Park on the evenings of July 30th and 31st.They'll also appear in August at the Tremont Arts in August Festival and at their own space at the Dealership in Cleveland Heights.  The summer will be capped by an appearance at Cain Park.
